Sofyali 9 Review

With Greek music playing in the background, photographs of old Istanbul on the walls, and friendly, laid-back surroundings on a picturesque backstreet in Beyoglu's Asmalimescit area, classic meyhane food and atmosphere soar several levels above the norm. Mezes, whether from the regular menu or the daily specials, are all excellent; standouts include cubes of fried eggplant in a yogurt and tahini sauce and "Circassian chicken," a spread made with chicken and ground walnuts. Grilled fish and meat are also very good. A limited menu is served during lunch.
