Deniz means "sea" in Turkish, an appropriate name for this popular seafood eatery on the waterfront in Kordonboyu, on the ground floor of the Izmir Palas Hotel. The house specialty is kiliç sis (skewered grilled swordfish), and locals and tourists alike flock to the restaurant to try the sütlü balik, a hot appetizer prepared with seabass, grouper, or a similar fish, and béchamel sauce—it's recommended that you order this dish when making a reservation or soon after after arriving as it takes about 45 minutes to prepare.
