How Much Time Do You Need?

Given the distances involved and the wealth of alluring sights, ideally, you would need 10 to 12 days to thoroughly explore the region. As a general rule of thumb, if you want to make a lot of stops, it makes more sense to tour as you go along, as driving back and forth between base cities and sights can be tiring. If you are pressed for time, it is best to head straight for Izmir or Selçuk—making either city the base from which you can take in some of the main sights nearby. If you're traveling by car, be sure to leave time to stop and stay in the smaller towns along the coast.
