Suna & Inan Kiraç Museum

Suna & Inan Kiraç Museum Review

Fifty yards inside Hadrian's gate, turn left for the Suna & Inan Kiraç Museum (Hadrian's Gate), a little oasis in a group of restored buildings decorated with an unlikely looking painted exterior that researchers say was the way most Antalya houses looked in Ottoman times. The museum is part of a privately funded research institute and has an excellent library of books on the region around Antalya—although these are accessible only with special permission—and a good range of guidebooks are on sale in the museum shop. The main display rooms have interesting pictures of Old Antalya and a couple of rooms with waxworks displaying a re-creation of Ottoman wedding scenes. The best part of the museum is the restored church in the garden, where there is a delightful display of historical kitsch from the potteries of the late Ottoman period.
