Almost everyone who arrives by air into this region flies into Cancún, at the Aeropuerto Internacional Cancún. Chetumal, however, has an airport, Aeropuerto de Chetumal, on its southwestern edge, along Avenida Alvaro Obregón where it turns into Carretera 186.

Mexicana Airlines flies from Mexico City to Chetumal five times a week. Aerosaab, a charter company with four- and five-seat Cessnas, flies from a small airstrip in Playa del Carmen to Chichén Itzá and Isla Holbox. The five-hour Chichén Itzá tours costs $260. The three- to four-hour Isla Holbox tours cost $285. Aerosaab can be chartered for flights throughout the Riviera Maya and Costa Maya.
