Pelican Beach Resort/Pelican's Pouch South Water Caye Review

Steps from one of Belize's best beaches, where you can swim, snorkel, and dive from shore, and fish to your heart's content, is this former convent turned peaceful island retreat on 3 1/2 seaside acres. The colonial-era main house has a dining room serving fresh seafood and Belizean-style dishes on the ground floor, and five large rooms on the second floor. You can also stay in one of four no-frills but pleasant cottages: Egret's Escape, a honeymoon cottage; Osprey's Nest; Sandpiper Suites; and Heron's Hideaway, which has a porch over the water. A dormitory is for student groups. With all meals and tax, you can stay in one of the rooms in the main house for BZ$627 double in-season, or BZ$721 in a cottage. The BZ$10 per day per person Marine Reserve fee is extra. Power here is solar, showers are rainwater, and toilets are the composting kind.
