Ak'bol Yoga Retreat & Eco-Resort Review

This hip little beach resort has seven simple thatch cabanas, some with sea views, around a natural stone swimming pool. You'll love the outdoor showers in the cabanas. On the lagoon side is a three-story "barracks" with 30 single rooms (shared baths) for those attending yoga retreats. Rates for these rooms start at BZ$100 double plus 15% tax and service, and yoga lessons are BZ$30. Bean, the restaurant, serves local foods such as salbutes (crisp little open-faced corn tortillas topped with shredded chicken, cabbage, and pickled onion), panades (corn tortillas usually filled with fish and fried), and pupusas (corn tortillas filled with refried beans, cheese, and meat, then cooked on the stovetop and served with salsa) at some of the best prices on the island, and it also offers pizzas and vegetarian dishes. Shade, the bar, has cold drinks at reasonable prices.
