The Lodge at Big Falls Review

Relax beside a meandering jungle river, listen to otters splash, and admire colorful butterflies at this small lodge on 30 placid acres beside the Rio Grande River. This is a birder's paradise: 350 species have been recorded within 5 mi (8 km) of the lodge. Owners Marta and Rob Hirons—she's an American who has lived abroad for many years, and he's English—built the six pleasant thatch cabañas with tile floors and private baths. They've recently added two more cabins with metal roofs and air-conditioning. After dinner (around BZ$64), read up on naturalist lore in the lodge's Resource Center, where you can use satellite Internet.
