Maya Beach Hotel Bistro

Maya Beach Hotel Bistro Review

Before ending up here, owners John and Ellen Lee (he's Australian, she's American) traveled the world and worked in 20 countries. They obviously figured out what travelers love, because their bistro by the beach is one of our favorite restaurants in all of Belize. It won "Restaurant of the Year" honors in 2011 from the Belize Tourism Board. The Bistro has been expanded, to provide more beachside seating. The menu changes occasionally, but among the standards you'll go gaga over are five-onion cioppino, mixed seafood in a robust tomato and vegetable stew; boathouse pie, fish filet in truffle and bourbon sauce, topped with puff pastry and feta-mashed potatoes; potato-encrusted snapper with shrimp; and cocoa-dusted pork chop on a risotto cake. Dinner entrees are mostly priced from BZ$28 to BZ$56. The Bistro has added a selection of small plates and appetizers including fish cakes, a shrimp corn dog, and honey-coconut ribs, from BZ$12 to BZ$28. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, although the owners usually close for a few weeks in summer. At breakfast, don't miss the fresh-baked cinnamon role—it's big enough for Godzilla.
