Many regard a visit to the Jaguar Rescue Center as the highlight of their trip to Puerto Viejo. The name is a bit misleading. The original rescued animal here was an orphaned, injured jaguar cub that ultimately did not survive. His memory lives on in the facility's name, even if there are no other jaguars on-site. Primarily howler monkeys, sloths, and lots of snakes make up the charges of the good folks here. The goal, of course, is to return the animals to the wild, although, for some, their fragile condition means this will end up being their permanent home. Your admission fee for the 90-minute tour helps fund the work here.
