Sunspot Bar and Grill Review

The open-air, poolside restaurant of the exclusive Makanda by the Sea hotel has tables beneath purple cloth tents overlooking the sea and surrounding jungle. The kitchen, cleverly hidden beneath the bar, serves up such succulent treats as jumbo shrimp in a ginger sauce and grilled beef tenderloin with a choice of sauces. Pizzas, salads, and sandwiches are on the lunch menu. You'll want to put on insect repellent at night. Children under 12 are not allowed.

    Exc poolside atmosphere and food

    We loved this restaurant during our stay at the hotel. Makanda was the perfect honeymoon escape for us and Sunspot was the icing on the cake!

    Love the tropical atmosphere, food and monkeys!

    We loved the food at the Sunspot, but the best part was being able to relax around the pool while the monkeys entertained us. We found the menu to have many great choices, and altho a bit pricey it was well worth it for the large portions and great service. Best we found in Manuel Antonio!

    Great food, service and ambiance in Manuel Antonio

    We stayed at Hotel Makanda for our honeymoon and were thrilled to find that their poolside restaurant was one of the best we found in Costa Rica. The service was so friendly and the food had a little something for everyone with huge portions. You could eat in the restaurant or right by the pool, which fit our style perfectly. Just be prepared that the prices are almost what we pay in New York, but we didn't care since the food was so good, and plentiful to boot!
