Longtime Tortuguero doyenne Miss Junie has now deservedly retired as the village's best-known cook, a tradition she learned at her mother's knee more than a half century ago. Her daughters continue to serve cheap, filling, tasty food at an open-air restaurant adjoining their home. (Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were among the early diners here.) Selection is limited, and reservations are required, but you can usually count on a chicken, beef, or fish platter with rice and beans simmered in coconut milk. Your meal includes a beverage and dessert.
