Overlooking the same cloud forest and boulder-strewn river as Savegre Hotel de Montaña, Trogón Lodge is more a relaxing hideaway than a hiking-heavy destination. The green wooden cabins are surrounded by a riot of roses, calla lilies, and geraniums. Each has two separate rooms with big windows, queen-size beds, white-tile baths with hot showers, and gas heaters and extra blankets for chilly mountain nights. The only drawback is shared verandas. A honeymoon cabin perched in solitary splendor has a king-size bed and a whirlpool tub with a panoramic view. Meals are served in a restaurant with tree-trunk tables, adjoined by a bar with a river view. Quetzal-watching, horseback riding, waterfall hikes, and an 11-platform canopy tour are some of the diversions.
