Perched high above Alajuela, this hotel does have the "good view" it is named for, but few of its rooms share in that vista, which is best appreciated from the back lawn. Three balcony rooms on the second floor in back have decent views of the Central Valley, but even better are the views of Poás Volcano from the three rooms above the lobby. Most rooms, however, overlook the lawns, or pool area. They are fairly standard -- carpeted and sparsely decorated, with small baths and TVs -- with none of the pizzazz of similarly priced options. The staff is superb, and the restaurant behind the lobby serves international dishes and grilled items.

We stayed our final night in CR at the Hotel Buena Vista, the rooms were very comfortable and the food in the restaurant was very good. We enjoyed the grounds, which were gorgeous. Very reasonable price and very helpful staff.
