$$, Puerto Jiménez
Fodor's Review:
A storybook collection of octagonal cottages in a tropical garden, this hotel has caimans lurking in the nearby mangrove lagoon. The main event here is fishing, both onshore and offshore, and the hotel has fishing packages that also include some nature activities off the water. The recently refurbished cabinas have comfortable king-size beds, wicker furniture, tile floors, hot-water showers, and intricately carved mahogany doors. The attractive alfresco restaurant ($) has a view of fishing boats in the gulf and the distant hills of Piedras Blancas. The short dinner menu changes daily (the fish is excellent) and full breakfasts are served.
