Extravagant ecotourism is the theme here. Sumptuous villas, each a symphony of rare hardwoods, have handmade four-poster beds, bathrooms with outdoor garden showers, and private verandas with Golfo Dulce views. The pool, the largest in the region, is meant for serious swimmers. Service is top-notch in the alfresco restaurant, where the food has Italian and Argentine accents. (There's also a vegetarian menu.) You can hike steep forest trails within the property and help monitor the local poison-dart frog population. The road down to the waterfront resort is so steep that you need 4WD and nerves of steel. Most guests arrive by boat from Puerto Jiménez. This place is not recommended (by the owners' admission) for kids under 6.
