Fodor's Review:

Towering over a coffee plantation west of San José, the stately Marriott's thick columns, wide arches, and central courtyard are re-creations straight out of the 17th century, and hand-painted tiles and abundant antiques complete the historic appearance. Guest rooms are more contemporary, but they're elegant enough, with hardwood furniture and sliding glass doors that open onto tiny balconies. The service is comprehensive; if, for instance, you would like ballboys to help you fine-tune your tennis game, then this may be your place.

A great way to start or end your Costa Rica vacation!

Posted by OCDiner from Orange County, CA on 7/25/07
We stayed here on both our first and last days in Costa Rica as it is close to the airport (but not right AT the airport). We were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the hotel is and the wonderful service that we received! We loved it and would absolutely stay there again!

This Hotel Saved Our Vacation

Posted by lindafrazer from Philadelphia, PA on 3/23/07
Our vacation had been unexpectedly extended by USAir when our flight was canceled. USAir flies into and out of San Jose only one day a week. We were stuck in the airport with no cell and no laptop to make any arrangements. We took a taxi to this hotel and with out any reservations they were kind and took us in, although they were full. The room was beautiful, the service great, and Diana in the concierge lounge couldn't have been more helpful. They turned what could have been a nightmare into a wonderful extension of a great vacation. I do agree with some of the other reviewers, the prices of the extra's are a little higher than other hotels in Costa Rica, but the room rates are very reasonble. I thought $5 for a bottle of water a little high, but we were so happy to have a room we didn't care.
