Fodor's Review:
Nestled between the river and the ocean, Mawamba is the perfect place to kick back and relax. It is also the only jungle lodge within walking distance (about 10 minutes) of town. Packages include transport from San José; when you arrive at the river town of Matina, you're whisked into a launch for a 2½-hour ride to a 15-acre site with comfortable (hot-water!) rustic cabinas with garden views. Meals are taken in the spacious dining room, and are included in the price, along with transfers and guided tours of the jungle and canals; trips to turtle-heavy beaches cost $10 extra. Packages begin at $223 per person.
