Upriver from the beach on exquisitely landscaped grounds, this hotel is awash in clouds of terrestrial orchids and aflame with bright bougainvillea and hibiscus. Rooms are in adobe-style cabinas with thatched roofs and cane ceilings, and have clean white-tile bathrooms. The newer junior suites have king-size beds, cable TV, and air-conditioning – a must, since the cabinas bake in the sun. Four also have whirlpool tubs. Every room has a private porch screened with mosquito netting and furnished with bamboo chairs and hammocks. Plants and elegant table settings fill the thatch-roof restaurant where the breakfast buffet ($6) is a good deal. A luxurious, large pool has a swim-up bar and handsome teak pool furniture.
