The world-famous Playa Pavones surf break is a 10-minute walk from La Ponderosa, the area's only beach resort and a cut above the usual surfer hangout. Accommodations are very comfortable, and the small but tranquil swimming pool is set in an enchanting garden with an ocean view. Rooms have high-end mattresses dressed in crisp white linens and gleaming tiled bathrooms, and some also have air-conditioning. Two of the three spacious suites have screened-in porches overlooking the lush garden and pool. A two-bedroom villa with a patio kitchen and a two-story house with full kitchen are available as weekly rentals. If you're not into surfing, there are nature trails winding through 14 acres of gardens and forest, a yoga deck, and on-site massages. Everything is within walking distance, including a swimmable beach, so you don't need a car. Breakfast is not included in the price, but the $30 per person meal plan covers three meals.
