Valle de El General Region
The Valle de El General (The General's Valley) area encompasses vast expanses of highland wilderness on the upper slopes of the Cordillera de Talamanca and the high-altitude páramo of Chirripó National Park, as well as prosperous agricultural communities amid vast, sunbaked fields of pineapple and sugarcane. It is bounded to the north and west by the central highlands of the massive Cordillera de Talamanca and to the south by La Amistad International Park, above San Vito. The valley is named for the Río de El General, one of the many rivers that rise in the Talamancas and run down through the valley, making it ideal for farming.
