For all emergencies, call the municipal police department. Officers patrol most blocks downtown in male-female pairs. Look for them in white pullover shirts, dark trousers, and baseball caps. Contact the tourist police for free, regularly scheduled escorts to the Cerro de la Cruz, information, and minor matters. The office is near the market, and is open 24 hours.
