San Andrés Xecul
A quick detour from the Pan-American Highway brings you to San Andrés Xecul, notable for its canary-yellow baroque church of the same name, which is possibly the most ornate house of worship in the country. The structure's facade contains more than 200 carved figures that echo the designs found in the huipils worn by local women. San Andrés's Thursday market begins on the plaza in front of the church and spills onto the steep streets that lead away from the town center.
