Mexicali
Safety and Precautions
Mexicali, like other border towns, has seen a rise in drug-related violence over the past several years. While there are few reports of increased crime directed at American tourists in Mexicali, additional caution is advised when traveling to the city. Most visitors head immediately down the coast rather that linger near the border, but if you do find yourself in Mexicali overnight, take the usual precautions: park your car in a secured hotel lot and avoid walking alone after dark. The city is generally safe, if not especially savory, during daylight hours.
