The correos (post office) is open weekdays 8 to 5 and Saturday 9 to 1; there's also a Western Union office in the building and a courier service. Postal service to and from Mexico is extremely slow. Avoid sending or receiving parcels -- and never send checks or money through the mail. Invariably they are stolen. Your best bet for packages, money, and important letters is to use a courier service such as DHL or Federal Express.

Most hotels offer Internet service but at exorbitant rates. Some go as high as $25 per hour, although many now offer wireless service for those guests with laptops. There are not many Internet cafés in the Zona Hotelera and they tend to be more expensive than the ones in Downtown, so head to El Centro if you need to send more than one e-mail.

On Isla Mujeres

The correos (post office) is open weekdays 8 to 7 and Saturday 9 to 1. You can have mail sent to "Lista de Correos, Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, Mexico"; the post office will hold it for 10 days, but note that it can take up to 12 weeks to arrive. There aren't any courier services on the island; for Federal Express or DHL, you have to go to Cancún.

Internet service is available in downtown stores, hotels, and offices. The average price is 15 pesos per hour. Cafe Internet and DigaMe have the fastest computers.
