Fairmont Mayakoba Review
Set under a mangrove canopy, this sprawling luxury resort sets new standards in the Riviera Maya for sustainability and comfort. It has been recognized for its green practices and community involvement; negative environmental impact is minimized with biodegradable bath products, a recycling program, rooftops made from recycled tires, and bicycles stationed throughout the 240-acre property. For those who prefer to hitch a ride, electric golf carts pass every five minutes and wildlife boat tours are offered every hour. Chefs at all three restaurants purchase only sustainable lobster, which helps support the economic development of the local communities within the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. All three types of rooms were built within the existing habitat, including standard rooms in the main building, oceanfront suites, and the casitas with lagoon or mangrove views. Decorated in shades of lime and plum, rooms have iPod docks, balconies, and locally made furniture. Guests have access to the Mayakoba golf course, tennis, and the spa with its own Melipona beehive for honey treatments (the bees are stingless). Guests are encouraged to "Pack with Purpose" so that personal items can be donated to impoverished communities.
