Casa Mexicana Review

Although not on the beach, this distinctive and inexpensive hotel overlooks the waterfront in San Miguel; splurge on the waterfront rooms, which have comfortable balconies from which to enjoy the sea views. A dramatic staircase leads up to this hotel's windswept lobby. Some rooms, which are decorated in subtle blues and yellows, face Avenida Rafael E. Melgar; others overlook the town's rooftops and trees behind the hotel or the indoor terrace where breakfast is served. Immaculate rooms have bathtubs, otherwise rare downtown. The rate includes a full breakfast buffet with Mexican and American fare, and the lobby bar overlooking the street is a great place for sunset drinks. There isn't a more efficient, pleasant place to stay in San Miguel, and the rates are surprisingly low for all you get—large rooms, balconies, free Wi-Fi, and breakfast. It's popular with visitors doing business on the island, guests looking for dive packages, and those who prefer walking to everything they need. Two sister properties, Hotel Bahía and Suites Colonial, offer less expensive suites with kitchenettes (the Bahía has some ocean views; the Colonial is near the square).
