Cantering down an isolated beach or up a desert trail is one of the great pleasures of Los Cabos (as long as the sun isn't beating down too heavily). The following companies have well-fed and well-trained horses. One-hour trips generally cost about $35 per person, two-hour trips about $65.
Horses are available for rent in front of the Playa Médano hotels; contact Rancho Collins Horses (624/143-3652).
The popular Red Rose Riding Stables (Hwy. 1, Km 4, Cabo San Lucas. 624/143-4826) has healthy horses for all levels of riders. The outfitter leads trips to the beach and the desert. Groups are sometimes too large to suit all riders' levels of expertise.
The Cuadra San Francisco Equestrian Center (Hwy. 1, Km 19.5, across from Cabo Real development, the Corridor. 624/144-0160. www.loscaboshorses.com) gives trail rides and lessons. Its 45 beautiful show horses are well-trained. Trail rides go into the hills overlooking Cabo Real or to the San Carlos arroyo; both focus on the flora as much as the riding. Trips are limited to 20 people, with one guide for every six or seven people. Reserve at least a day in advance and request an English-speaking guide.
