One of the first San Lucas hotels, the Solmar sits against the rocks at land's end facing the Pacific. Rooms are done in a Mexico-Santa Fe style, with subdued green- and blue-tile baths. The oldest rooms open right to the sand. Newer buildings run up a tiered hillside; it's a hike to the beach and pools. Time-share units (also used as hotel rooms) have kitchenettes and a private pool area. The surf here is far too dangerous for swimming, but don't miss a stroll along the wide strip of beach. The Solmar's sport-fishing fleet is first-rate. The restaurant hosts a Saturday night Mexican fiesta; the food in the bar is better.
