A replica of the original fort has been built on the Cerro de Las Pilas, not far from the main plaza. It houses the Museo El Fuerte Mirador, where several rooms have displays on the history of the fort and the regional flora and fauna, and works from local artists, past and present. The ramparts of the fort are a great vantage point over the river valley. At dusk you can catch a glimpse of hundreds of bats leaving their homes deep inside the walls of the fort.
