Fodor's Review:

Ultraluxury is the only standard at the SoHo Met: Frette linens, European down duvets, walk-in closets, marble bathrooms with heated floors, and upmarket bath products. The "sleep concierge" offers amenities such as tea and biscotti, bubble baths, and aromatherapy eye pillows. Glamour begins in the cosmopolitan open-concept lobby, where a stunning glass installation by world-renowned Dale Chihuly is set in the canopy at the front entrance, dazzling guests and passersby. The hotel has the finest amenities, including a state-of-the-art fitness center, lap pool, full-service day spa, and Clefs d'Or concierge services. Spaciousness and floor-to-ceiling windows create the feeling of luxury, without pretension, throughout. No detail has been left to chance and only the finest materials have been used. The two-level penthouse suite, one of the finest of its kind in the city, has attracted stars like Madonna and film director husband Guy Ritchie. Senses Restaurant is famous for its unique menu, wine cellar, and service. Pros: heated bathroom floors, electric "do not disturb" signs and curtains, stylish but not showy. Cons: lap pool only three feet deep, toiletries not restocked daily, located slightly away from main streets.

cold, impersonal

I'd arranged for early check-in at noon because I was coming to Toronto for my father's funeral. The room still wasn't ready by 2:00. I was told twice that I could have a room immediately if I would accept a room on a smoking floor but I didn't want that. At 2:05, they told me the room would be ready in 10 minutes. I said I couldn't wait because I was going to a funeral. The hotel desk clerk's face was utterly impassive. When I came back from the funeral some hours later, another desk clerk pointed out that the room had indeed been ready 10 minutes after I had left, seeming to imply that my departure had been unwarranted and hasty. I said it was my father's funeral and so I couldn't wait. Again, I got an impassive, bordering on icy, stare. The iciness was a theme. In our room, which clearly was two rooms put together and therefore had two bathrooms, one of the showers only ran cold water. I will never stay at this hotel again.
