In the Hotel Captain Cook, American and French cuisine is the order of the day, along with the best view in Anchorage -- the Chugach Mountains to the east, the Alaska Range to the north, and the sprawling city of Anchorage 20 stories below. Equally impressive are the 10,000-bottle wine cellar and hefty portions. The expert waitstaff presents a menu of seafood, along with game and other meats, served in an elegant setting with plenty of starched linen, brass, and teak. It's best known for a leisurely five-course set Chef's Tasting menu: $70 per person or $110 with wine pairings.

The Crow's Nest was a huge disappointment. We spent over $150 for two people with one cocktail, two salads, two entrees, and one dessert and experienced nothing but really bad food and service to match. Incredibly fatty meats, poorly prepared seafood, and a waiter that never checked on us between courses. We were there over two hours and we had to chase down servers just to get more water and to order dessert. I would not recommend this place to anyone. You can do a lot better in Anchorage for the price.
