$$$-$$$$, Steak, Downtown

User Rating: **** 3.6

Fodor's Review:

Alaska's oldest steak house has barely changed since opening in 1957. The restaurant has dark woods and an old-fashioned feel and serves tender, flavorful steaks of all kinds, including a 4-inch-thick filet mignon. If you have to wait for a table, have a martini at the bar and order the hors d'oeuvres platter ($26) -- a sampler of top sirloin steak, cheese, and prawns that could be a meal for two. For dessert, try a tart key lime pie or triple-chocolate cheesecake. Dinner reservations are advised.

Respectable Choice

I was afraid that this would turn out to be one of those places that are rated more on an extended past glory than on current merits. I had no real complaints. I would eat here again. The prices were a tad high, even for Alaska and I think there are other places in town just as good. But for a downtown tradition, it didn't disappoint.
