Beaches, La Jolla
Fodor's Review:
The powerful waves at this beach, officially known as Torrey Pines City Park Beach, attract world-class surfers, and its relative isolation appeals to nudist nature lovers (although by law nudity is prohibited) as well as gays and lesbians. Access to parts of the shore coincides with low tide. There are no lifeguards on duty, and strong rip currents are common -- only experienced swimmers should take the plunge. Storms have weakened the cliffs in the past few years; they're dangerous to climb and should be avoided. Part of the fun here is watching hang gliders and paragliders ascend from the glider port atop the cliffs.
