$$, American, The Castro

Fodor's Review:

Home. If you're hungry for home cooking but don't want to stir the pots yourself, this big, noisy eatery is a good solution. Service can be sluggish, but the fresh, all natural ingredients and classic fare compensate heartily. Happiest at Home are comfort-food seekers who dream of macaroni and cheese, sloppy joes with coleslaw, and root beer floats that recall the soda-fountain treats of the 1950s. The lively Backyard Bar, a heated rear patio, roars until late in the night. On weekends, there's ham and eggs, brisket hash, and serious Bloody Marys for brunch-goers. Every night, the thrifty can sit down to the early-bird special: three courses and a glass of wine for not much more than the price of a movie ticket.
