Kaua'i: Airports

Airports

Honolulu International Airport (HNL) is the main stopover for most domestic and international flights. From Honolulu, there are interisland flights to Kauai departing regularly from early morning until evening. In addition, some carriers now offer nonstop service directly from the mainland to Lihue Airport (LIH) on a limited basis.

Long layovers don't have to be only about sitting around or shopping. These days they can be about burning off vacation calories. Check out www.airportgyms.com for lists of health clubs that are in or near many U.S. and Canadian airports.

Honolulu/Oahu Airport

Hawaii's major airport is Honolulu International, on Oahu, 20 minutes (9 mi) west of Waikiki. To travel interisland from Honolulu, you can depart from either the interisland terminal or the commuter-airline terminal, located in two separate structures adjacent to the main overseas terminal building. A free bus service, the Wiki Wiki Shuttle, operates between terminals.

Ground Transportation

Marriott Kauai and Radisson Kauai Beach Resort provide airport shuttles to and from the Lihue Airport. In addition, travelers who've booked a tour with Kauai Island Tours, Roberts Hawaii, or Polynesian Adventure Tours will be picked up at the airport.

If you're not renting a car, you'll need to take a taxi or limousine. Cabs are available curbside at baggage claim. Cab fares to locations around the island are estimated as follows: Poipu $35-$41, Wailua-Waipouli $17-$20, Lihue-Kukui Grove $10, Princeville-Haena $72-$95. There are three limousine companies that service Lihue Airport: Any Time Shuttle, Custom Limousine, and Kauai Limousine.
