The world-renowned aviator chose to be buried here because he and his wife, writer Anne Morrow Lindbergh, spent a lot of time living in the area in a home they'd built. He was buried here in 1974, next to Palapala Hoomau Congregational Church. Since this is a churchyard, be considerate and leave everything exactly as you found it. Next to the churchyard on the ocean side is a small county park, a good place for a peaceful picnic.

By the time you've experienced all the twists, turns, sites and sounds of the Road to Hana, you are ready for some tranquility. Lindbergh's grave is set in the tranquility of a church and park, and visitors have been respectful and reverent. Plan ahead--we're talking remote--we missed the turnoff the first time and it was 2 years before we returned to Maui and actually found the church.
