$$$$, Steakhouse, South Loop
Fodor's Review:
Chef Shawn McClain established his renown with Asian seafood at Spring and vegetables at Green Zebra before giving the standard Chicago steakhouse model a much needed update with Custom House. The Printer's Row restaurant features sandstone block walls, cozy leather booths and picture windows, a handsome but not overly masculine setting that mirrors the food. You can get a New York Strip or a flat iron steak, of course, but venturesome carnivores should try the braised veal cheeks or roast quail. Outstanding sides include gratin potatoes with sheep's milk cheese and desserts have a comforting quality in dishes like malted milk chocolate mousse.
