Kingsleigh Inn

$$-$$$$, Southwest Harbor

User Rating: ***** 5.0

Fodor's Review:

It's the details that make the difference at this inn in Southwest Harbor. In your guest room you'll find fresh flowers, bottles of port, and divine homemade chocolate truffles, and in the bath there are fluffy robes and slippers. Originally built in 1904, the inn is decorated with period furnishings. Guest rooms have atmospheric additions like ceiling fans. Several rooms have balconies with harbor views. The third-floor suite has hardwood floors, a wood-burning fireplace, and a telescope for stargazing or watching boats travel in and out of the harbor. You can relax by the fireplace in the living room or take in the fresh sea air from the wraparound porch. Pros: Bend-over-backwards customer service, an excellent four-course gourmet breakfast. Con: Most breakfasts don't include meat.

The Kingsleigh Inn was a perfect B&B!

Posted by kimmark3 from Tampa Bay, FL on 11/12/07

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the Kingsleigh Inn and all the special touches offered. We stayed in the suite for 5 nights, which was ideal. We had an incredible amount of space to spread out and make ourselves at home. The bathrobes and slippers were a nice touch, as were the sherry and truffles in the room. The breakfasts were the absolute best that we have ever had, and we have stayed at B&B's throughout the world! Each morning was another culinary delight! Dana and Greg were wonderful hosts, and we hope to get back soon to visit!

Married at the Kingsleigh

Posted by Paul_Huber from Atlanta, Georia on 2/4/07

Our first stay at the Kingsleigh was late summer 2005. Our week long experience was so spectacular that we returned in June 2006 to be married. Our original plan was for an outdoor ceremony by the water, but rain forced us to move to plan B - an intimate ceremony in the turret room of the third floor suite with a view of the harbor as a back drop. Dana and Greg were gracious enough to be our witnesses, as well as photographers. Later that evening we had a memorable diner at Red Sky, a short walk around the corner from the inn. Dana made arrangements for a romantic table, and the owner brought over Champaign to toast the occasion. There are plenty of restaurants in the area - ask Dana and Greg for recommendations. Both are "foodies" and appreciate the local culinary talents. I know lobster is the first thing people talk about when they talk about Maine, but for us it was the Maine scallops! Fantastic! And be sure to go to Jordan Pond for some popovers with strawberry jam and tea. We travel often and stay at B&B's exclusively, and the Kingsleigh is the benchmark by which we judge the others. Greg and Dana are great hosts and we look forward to seeing them again when we return to the Kingsleigh for our 1st anniversary this June.

The Benchmark by which B&B's should be graded

Posted by Jeff from Charleston, SC on 8/22/06

Over the years, my wife and I have stayed in numerous B&B's. After 4 nights at the Kingsleigh Inn, at Southwest Harbor, I can honestly say I enjoyed my stay there more than any B&B or Hotel. Everything is just perfect. The Inn Keepers are just wonderful folks and work very hard to provide a super pleasant experience for their guests. The attention to detail is just unbelievable. Everything just exudes thoughful professionalism, right down to Dana's delightful breakfast's (even though I couldn't pronounce the names or know what they were in some cases. My wife had to tell me) If you are traveling in the Acadia, Bar Harbor area and don't stay at the Kingsleigh Inn, you'll miss the treat of a lifetime. Believe me it's the BEST..!

Perfect Honeymoon Hideaway

Posted by Tammie from Galesburg, Michigan on 11/14/05

My husband and I traveled Maine for our honeymoon and we stayed two nights at Kingsleigh. We had such a wonderful time! We stayed in the chelsea room and my breath was taken away when we walked in. We had our own private deck with a vew of the harbor and the room was so plush and cozy. Not only was the room very accomodating the food was amazing. We had by far the best breakfast of the honeymoon here. My husband and I both have said if we could do it all over again we would have stayed our entire honeymoon at Kingsleigh. If you are ever in the southwest harbor area this place is a must!! I know we will be going back!

Kingsleigh Inn -- Fit for a King

Posted by Sandra from Germantown, MD on 9/7/05

This B&B will turn an ordinary trip into something special. The hosts, Dana & Greg, are warm and friendly and have attended to every detail. The food is asthetically pleasing, pleantiful and delicious. The rooms are attractive, clean and comfortable. I especially enjoyed breakfast on the porch with a harbor view. And the 3rd floor suite is my favorite....photos don't do it justice. I highly recommend this inn to anyone who wants to get away.

Couldn't Ask For More

Posted by Glen from Washington, D.C. on 8/30/05

The only thing more welcoming than the kitchen entrance are the owners! Walking sticks for use, more books and magazines than you could possibly want, and warm, impeccably clean rooms, spacious guest areas and great coffee await you. And then.....there are the breakfasts! Simply scrumptious! Every item fresh and delightful. We can't wait to go back (and have already reserved next year!)
