Mount Desert Island offers a range of accommodations to suit every budget. Whether you are looking for campgrounds, bed-and-breakfasts, or resort hotels, there are lodging options to meet your needs. Bar Harbor is the island's most well-known community, and it's a good choice for being close to shopping and nightlife, but the other villages offer accommodations that are equally -- or even more -- enticing, especially if you want a quieter lodging experience. If you drive along Route 3, you can spot a number of roadside motels and cabin-style accommodations that fall into lower price categories. Some bed-and-breakfasts can also be quite reasonable. Those looking to stay in a sprawling resort hotel or a beautifully appointed seaside inn should be prepared for prices in the top categories. Acadia National Park offers two wooded campgrounds but no cabins nor lodges.
The high-season rates go into effect during the second half of June and don't drop again until after Labor Day. Rates often dip significantly in spring and autumn. Winter rates are the lowest.
