Fodor's Review:

Here, at the cream of Boston's culinary crop, Chef Eric Brennan uses his gift for creating exquisite handcrafted American cuisine. His innovative use of fresh local seafood and luxury ingredients serves him well here, especially with his selection of raw-bar items and entrées like seared tuna with beef short-ribs and Macomber-turnip ravioli. Try to finagle a seat near the windows on the second floor for a terrific view of the Public Garden or snag a seat at the bar for one of the incomparable lobster pizzas and a hand-muddled bajito (made with rum, sugar, and basil).

Don't go

Posted by jhackett1 from Cincinnati on 6/1/07

I recently dined at Radius, No. 9 Park, and Excelsior in Boston. The food and service at the first two were superb. Excelsior's food was average to below average and was a great disappointment. The service was what you'd expect from any restaurant. Unlike the Radius and No.9 Park where I regretted the meal coming to an end, I welcomed it at Excelsior.

Heavy Lifting

Posted by Ray from Bensheim Germany on 10/24/05

based on the outstanding rating at Fodor's we ventured in and found it heavy going. Four people had three dishes, chicken, cod and salmon. All shared one thing, very heavy seasoning and sauces that left the actual dishes overwhelmed. We also like to see what is on our plates, which the lighting did not allow. Service was attentive and very good.
