1807 House

$$-$$$, Provincetown

Fodor's Review:

This weathered, craggy old house that dates to 1783 (it was moved to this spot in 1807, hence the name) doesn't look like much more than a cottage from the quiet stretch of Commercial Street it faces, but behind the facade you'll find a beautifully kept inn with cozy, low-ceilinged rooms. Several tastefully furnished and very private apartments and studios are in back. The dramatic Red Room, overlooking Provincetown Bay, contains a hulking four-poster mahogany bed, and the Artist's Studio, perhaps the most romantic unit, occupies a 2nd-floor perch with a balcony affording water views; French doors lead into this light-flooded room with a high cathedral ceiling. This is one of the West End's little treasures -- and a good value to boot. Pros: Charming West End location, feels secluded and private, elegantly furnished. Cons: Long walk from East End businesses, sleepy vibe not ideal for social butterflies, kitchens only in some units.
