A bit more upscale than most of the properties along Route 28, but still with extremely reasonable rates, the Bayside overlooks pristine salt marshes and, beyond them, Lewis Bay. Although it's not right on the water, there is a small beach and a large outdoor pool with a café (there's also an indoor pool). Rooms have contemporary light-wood furnishings, and several have cathedral ceilings, whirlpool tubs, and views toward the bay. Many members of the staff have worked here for years, which helps to explain the resort's family-friendly vibe. The Bayside Resort also offers a number of package deals related to everything from golf to day trips to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Pros: Ideal for families with children (organized kids' programs available), close to attractions of busy Route 28, reasonable rates, some water views, lots of specialized package deals. Cons: Beach is more like a sandy tanning area; no swimming, not for those seeking quiet and intimate surroundings.
