Guests at this busy crash pad just off Broadway are divided pretty evenly: half come for business, half for pleasure. Dimly lighted hallways create a feeling of perpetual nighttime -- an impression that lingers in the bedrooms, where black-metal furniture dominates. Rates may drop by as much as $100 a night off-season, depending on occupancy.

This review is written as a warning to anyone who might consider staying at this hotel, or suing them. I had the misfortune of being at this hotel when it caught fire. The building filled with thick, black, choking smoke and I am suffering from breathing problems as a result. The hotel staff abandoned ship leaving all guests to fend for themselves. Fire escapes were filled with choking smoke and two of the three were blocked, forcing guests into a third floor hall that was filled with smoke. It could easily have turned tragic.
The next morning, the hotel manager, Mark Wellings, had offered to comp me for all the nights, but then reneged and later surreptitiously billed my credit card for over $700 after I checked out. Mark Wellings is a liar and a weasel. To make matters worse, George Dfouni, COO of Amsterdam Hospitaltiy defended the lying and weasely behavior as being a matter of policy and steadfastly refused to make good on the agreement, just so he could soak a couple of extra nights of income out of me after nearly killing me.
The Internet is filled with extraordinary discontent for this hotel. Google wisely before staying here!

Ripped Off

On Nov. 25 we checked out of the Ameritania Hotel in NYC. They had charged us about $900 too much. When we looked (at check-out) to verify the amount on the rate card there was no amount that we signed and agreed to pay. I have contacted the hotel about a dozen times and some have acknowledged the error and some have not. Bottom line they do NOT have a card signed by me that the rate would be as high as I was charged. The reservations were made by a friend and confirmed the week prior to checking in. At that time they verified the rate and rooms

Rooms are so small you meet yourself coming and going

Stayed at the hotel on business trip in a room I physically measured as 10feet x 10 feet with no amentity except a TV which you could control with your toes while in bed. The bathroom was so small that you had to sit partly under the free standing sink when you used the toliet. The shower stall was 2 feet square and you had to leave the shower head down to take advantage gravity for water flow. During a heavy rain the window did not leak, it gushed water into the room which obviuously had happened before because of the condition of the floor. You don't get much for what you had to pay per night.
