Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site

Fodor's Review:

Commemorating the site of the original 1670 Charleston settlement, this park has a reconstructed village and fortifications, English park gardens with bicycle trails and walkways, and a replica 17th-century vessel moored in the creek. In the animal park native species roam freely -- among them alligators, bison, pumas, bears, and wolves. Bicycle rentals are available.
