Vancouveris on a health-and-wellness kick. Gyms, both public (operated by the Vancouver Park Board) and private, are well patronized. There are various martial arts, yoga, and Pilates classes offered around the city. If you're jonesing for a fitness fix, you shouldn't have trouble finding something to suit your fancy.
Bentall Centre Athletic Club. Specializing in squash, the Bentall Centre also has racquetball courts and weight and cardio gyms. Aerobics and yoga classes are given as well. Coal Harbour Community Centre. Operated by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, this ultramodern facility is shaped like a ship. Richmond Olympic Oval. For the 2010 Olympic Games, the neighborhood of Richmond received this speed-skating oval along the Fraser River. The facility, with a gorgeous glass-and-steel design, contains Olympic-size ice rinks, six basketball courts, and a huge fitness center. It's a 15-minute walk from the Canada Line. Semperviva Yoga Studios. Based in Kitsilano, this major yoga operator runs four studios—including one called the Sea Studio in a former fish factory on Granville Island overlooking False Creek. Vancouver Olympic Centre. Every visitor to Canada should consider experiencing curling at least once—it's the country's national pastime. At this sports facility, built for the 2010 Olympics, you can push off the "hack" to toss the 42-pound rock over the "pebbles" in hopes of at least a "biter."
