The cellar of what used to be Montréal's first women's prison hardly sounds like the ideal setting for an Italian restaurant, but fear not: Mama Emma's cooking is satisfying enough to drive out any lingering ghosts from those sad days. The place's stone walls and heavy beams make an ideal, catacomb-like setting for such Roman specialties as suckling pig roasted with garlic and rosemary and, on very special occasions, tripe Romaine. You might also want to try Mama's big juicy meatballs.

I thought the service was excellent. Extremely busy night but the food was AMAZING!!! Our waiter Paulo made the wait worthwhile, making us laugh while he was explaining the extensive menu and checking on us often during the evening. Make sure to get the fettucini with porcini mushrooms and the lamb....it doesn't get any better than this. Simple, but DELICIOUS. Be ready to take your time, this isn't McDonald's. There is a reason why it's so busy:)

I love Da Emma, we go there each time we visit Montreal and have had fantastic service, food and atmosphere. I do not understand the poor ratings in here. I have gone there at least 10 times and each and every time a perfect evening well worth the trip !!!!!!!
