Newfoundland and Labrador Sights

The Rooms Review

The provincial archives, museum, art gallery, and a multilevel atrium are all part of this cultural space, which opened in 2005. The design of the Rooms was inspired by traditional "fishing rooms," tracts of land by the waterside where fishing activities took place, and the views over St. John's from the third and fourth levels of this industrial space are awe inspiring. The two floors of galleries hold a collection of more than 7,000 contemporary works of art. On the fourth floor, the Rooms Café ($-$$) serves tasty seafood dishes including Newfoundland seafood chowder and desserts like sticky toffee pudding with crème anglaise; on Wednesday nights it's open for dinner, and it's a great place to watch the sun set or the fog creep in over the city.
