Don't-Miss Local Treats
Although there are Québec regional specialties that can be found province-wide, such as steak frites, poutine (fries with gravy and cheese curds), tourtière (meat pie with beans and maple syrup), and tarte au sucre (sugar pie), Montréal has a few local treats to try. The city is famous for its smoked meat, and the most famous place to get it is Schwartz's Delicatessen. Another local specialty is the Montréal bagel, which is smaller and has sweeter dough than the standard. It's worth the trip up to Mile End just to get one hot out of the oven.
