Side Trips from Montréal: Places to Explore

North Hatley

North Hatley, the small resort town on the tip of Lac Massawippi, has a theater and excellent inns and restaurants. Set among hills and farms, it was discovered by rich vacationers in the early 1900s, and has been drawing visitors ever since. It was particularly popular with magnates from the former Confederate States of America looking for a cool summer refuge that wasn't controlled by the Yankees. The result is that some of the village's most majestic buildings are more reminiscent of Georgia than Vermont.
